The City of Crandall is looking to create a volunteer assistance program (VAP) consisting of volunteers from the community which includes police, fire, city hall and most importantly our citizens. The purpose for this VAP would be to provide basic assistance to our vulnerable population in Crandall such as shut-ins, handicapped, and elderly residents impacted by COVID-19. Assistance could be as simple as going to the post office or other things such as picking up prescriptions, light grocery shopping, or any other assistance deemed appropriate. We will be in contact with Bluff View Senior Village as well.
The operation of this program will be simple. Those persons needing assistance will need to call City Hall, explain their need and let the volunteers perform their duties. Though financial assistance cannot be provided, performing these tasks can be provided to minimize potential exposure to COVID-19. If you have an actual emergency, please dial 911.
Getting the word out to this targeted population as well as volunteers present some challenges, but we believe through social media, signs, word of mouth, and any other means, it can be accomplished. We also ask that those interested in volunteering not exhibit any of the symptoms associated with COVID-19 or any other illnesses, such as the flu, to please refrain from volunteering. With grit, determination, and the true Crandall, Texas spirit, we can unite and help in solving a potential problem. In this public health crisis, being of good health is crucial during this time. We ask for your support through prayers and positive thoughts.
If you are interested in volunteering or that you are requesting assistance from the Volunteer Assistance Program, dial 972-427-3771 and choose option #7. Please leave your name and phone number as someone will call you back for additional information during business hours Monday thru Friday.
